The Seville European Film Festival (Spain) will screen the premiere of the flamenco documentary Cante jondo, Granada 1922 on November 05, 2022, at 8:00 p.m., at Teatro Alameda.
The documentary, supported by Acción Cultural Española, is directed by José Sánchez Montes and mixes animation and live footage to recreate the 1922 Cante Jondo Contest that was organized by Manuel de Falla and Federico García Lorca. Cante jondo means deep song, and it refers to traditional flamenco.
The film is based on the work of historian José Vallejo, one of the leading experts in the 1922 Cante Jondo Contest, with a script by Elena Serra and animation design by Álvaro García, ‘Seisdedos.‘
Cante jondo, Granada provides a brief history of flamenco and its situation in the 1920s. It features current flamenco artists such as Marina Heredia along with experts such as Faustino Núñez and José Manuel Gamboa, as well as a posthumous testimony by Enrique Morente.
