“The American Fiddler” (Mountain Home Music Company) is the new album by Andy Leftwich, one of the finest American violin players in the bluegrass scene. The album includes mostly original pieces by Leftwich. In addition, he also shows his admirable skill as a top mandolin player.
The album combines Irish, bluegrass, old-time and even classical music. “The songs on this album represent some of my favorite styles of fiddling that have been passed down from Scottish, Irish and Appalachian heritages,” says Leftwich. “The generations of fiddlers before me and the many talented musicians I’ve met along the way have all taught me something I could incorporate into my own playing, composing and arranging. My hope is that this album honors those influences and embodies all of the diverse elements that come together to make up The American Fiddler.”
The stellar list of musicians that collaborate on the album include Byron House and Mark Schatz on bass; Cody Kilby (Travelin’ McCourys) on guitar; award-winning banjo player Scott Vestal; dobro player (and Three Ring Circle bandmate) Rob Ickes; and mandolin master Sierra Hull.
