The world premiere of ‘Colores’ by flamenco violinist Víctor Guadiana (Seville, 1983) opened this second week’s Suma Flamenca performances yesterday, Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Sala Negra of Teatros del Canal in Madrid. One of his singularities is the leading role played by the violin in the performance of flamenco, turning his show into a groundbreaking project.
The violinist, composer and producer played in a quartet format with Guadiana on violin, Gaizka Baena on flamenco guitar, Marco Niemietz on bass and double bass, and Jorge Santana on drums and percussion. In Colores, Guadiana fuses, as in a crucible, different musical styles. From baroque to rock, traveling through world music and encountering flamenco. Indeed, it was an original and transgressive show.
