Italy’s World Music Competition Andrea Parodi Prize Reveals 2022 Finalists

Italy’s annual world music competition Premio Andrea Parodi has revealed the finalists that will compete the top awards October 13-15, 2022 in Cagliari. The finals will take place at the Cagliari Conservatory auditorium, produced by the Andrea Parodi Foundation under artistic director Elena Ledda.

The artists include Balentia (Sardinia), Beija Flor (Sicily, Italy), Escarteen Sisters (Spain), Folkatomik (Piedmont, Italy), Raquel Kurpershoek (Holland / Spain), Walter Laureti (Lazio, Italy), Antonio Smiriglia (Sicily, Italy), and Ual·la! (Spain).

During the finals the eight contestants will perform live in front of a large jury composed of authoritative experts, such as singers, authors, musicians, festival managers, managers, record companies, press offices, journalists, music critics, both Italian and international.

The overall winner will be entitled to a €2,500 grant, as well as the opportunity to perform in some Parodi partner festivals in 2023, such as the European Jazz Expo (Sardinia), Folkest (Friuli), as well as in the Andrea Parodi Award event itself. The winner of the Critics’ Prize will have the opportunity to create a professional music video clip of a piece, produced by the Andrea Parodi Foundation.

Some of the finalists might also be the opportunity to be invited to perform at some of the partner festivals (such as Mare e Miniere, Bianca d’Aponte Award, Mo’l’estate Spirit Festival, Musiconnect-Italy).

The Award was created to pay homage to Andrea Parodi, a prominent exponent of Italian world music, former founder of Tazenda. Parodi died prematurely in 2006.
