Madalitso Band – Musakayike (Les Disques Bongo Joe, 2022)
The increasingly popular Malawian duo Madalitso Band is back with another enchanting album titled “Musakayike“. Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa deliver a set of joyful, lively and seductive acoustic string music performed with guitar and the visually striking long-necked babatone.
The two artists provide lead vocals with hooks, beautiful harmonies and captivating call and response techniques. Although the songs were shorted for the album (they range from 3-6 to three minutes long), live versions are stretched over 10 minutes with variations and improvisations.
Musakayike means ‘don’t doubt us’.
