Elif Sanchez Exquisitely Blends Spanish and Turkish Music

Elif Sanchez – Mi Voz (Pasión Turca, 2022)

“Mi Voz” (My Voice, in Spanish) is the second album by talented and groundbreaking Turkish singer Elif Sanchez. Interestingly, Elif sings in Spanish. This is due to the fact that Elif married a Spanish speaker and has been exposed to Hispanic American and Spanish  music for years. In fact, this album is a collaboration with acclaimed Spanish guitar player, composer, and producer Javier Limón.

The album’s music is a beautiful and exquisite combination of Spanish and Latin American musical influences intertwined with Turkish elements. Indeed, it is a wonderful encounter between western and eastern Mediterranean cultures.

Javier Limón wrote seven original songs for “Mi Voz”. Additionally, the album contains two covers of well-known Spanish-language classics, “Dos Gardenias” and “Perfidia” along with “Vuelve (Kurşun AdresSormaz Ki)” a duo with Turkish singer Kenan Doğulu and “Amanecer (Gel EySeher)” performed in Spanish.

Elif Sanchez said about the new album, “I released my first album in October 2021, where I had one Spanish song at the very end of the album. I sent it to Javier to ask for his opinion, and he loved it. He said he would love to produce the next album. After months of work, we created a beautiful album that I am so proud of. Javier wrote wonderful songs, and I sang my heart out. I visited a different part of the world with this album, but as I always do, I took my home with me; my Turkish side. We tastefully blended Spanish music with my style. I think that’s what makes this album so special”.

The music video for the single “A Veces” was s directed by Gökhan Özdemir. “In the video, a songwriter describes the process of writing a song, looking for ways to express her feelings. The video emphasizes the importance of emotions rather than specific people. We have a woman who writes about love, thinking of two non-existent men with different characters,” Elif revealed.
