Pianist, Composer, Producer Júlio Resende was born June 10, 1982, in Faro, Algarve region, Portugal, although he spent his childhood in neighboring Olhão.
Júlio Resende is best known as a pioneer of a distinctive new genre called “Fado-Jazz”. His improvisation techniques incorporate various musical genres, including jazz, fado, classical music and even electronic music.
Resende’s first venture into the Fado-Jazz genre was the Amália Rodrigues tribute album. The album, tityled “Amália por Júlio Resende” was released in 2013. Consequently, he released additional albums where he explored the possibilities of Fado-Jazz.
Since 2019, Júlio Resende has undertaken an artistic partnership with pianist Maria João Pires in a project that unites the worlds of classical music and improvisation, which the pianists have called: “Maria João Pires & Júlio Resende – Dialogues”.
Júlio Resende has also worked as a soundtrack composer for the Netflix Spanish-language film Elisa y Marcela (2019), directed by Isabel Coixet and for the HBO series Foodie Love (2019) from the same director.
In 2020, Resende released “Júlio Resende – Fado Jazz Ensemble”. The album included the Portuguese guitar, interacting musically with a jazz trio.
German jazz label ACT Music released the album “Fado Jazz” in 2022.
In addition to his musical career, Resende also has a degree in Philosophy, having studied at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
