Cinematic Dark Folk from the North

Serpentent – Ancient Tomes, Volume I: Mother of Light (Svart Records, 2022)

Mother Of Light is the mesmerizing debut album by dark folk vocalist Anne K. O’Neill, also known as Serpentent. O’Neill is a multi-instrumentalist, painter, illustrator, photographer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist who harmoniously combines alluring European folk music, gorgeous cinematic sounds and delightful neoclassical influences. Interestingly, the music has a feel similar to Dead Can Dance.

Serpentent sings about love and grief, influenced by Jung, Bataille, Camus, and Krishnamurti.

The lineup includes Joseph M. D’Auria on drums; Dylan Desmond on bass; and guest appearances by Lorraine Rath, Sasha LaPointe, Kakophonix, and Joy Von Spain, Mother of Light.
