Rekindling Eccodek’s Spark

Eccodek – Recalibrate (Big Mind/Six Degrees, 2022)

“Recalibrate” is the new album from Canadian world fusion band Eccodek. Just like Transglobal Underground and similar groups, Eccodek crafts a Pan-Global form of world fusion, where various music traditions are combined with dub, funk, jazz, and electronic music.

Several high profile guests from the world music scene appear on the album, including Kiran Ahluwalia
and Mahsa Vahdat.

Album highlights include the Indian-flavored titled track “Recalibrate”; the inspired recreation of Bosnian song “Moj Dilibire”; the funky Indian dub on “Cellular”; and the exquisite and mesmerizing Middle Eastern fragrance of “Soul Garden”.

Band leader, producer and engineer Andrew McPherson said about the new album, “Like so many artists who’s musical compass had been completely scrambled because of the pandemic, I found myself wondering, what next? And with the future so uncertain, I realized I needed my own spirits lifted and that by rekindling Eccodek’s early spark and deep love of groove, I was reigniting the very musical passion I’d been missing.”

Eccodek includes Andrew McPherson on keyboards, flute, guitar; Adam Bowman on drums; Jason Shute on congas; Marc De Vos on bass; Brent Rowan on saxophone and woodwinds; and Les Hartai on beats and samples.

Other guests featured: Onkar Singh, John Orpheus, Brenna MacCrimmon, Charleston Okafor and Oranmiyan Ajagundade.
