FlaMonkey and Fundación SGAE have teamed up to present a set of groundbreaking Flamenco projects. The concerts are part of a larger event known as Alhambra Monkey Weekend, a major showcase for pop, rock and other genres held in El Puerto de Santa María, in southern Spain.
Three creations make up this new installment of FlaMonkey x Fundación SGAE: “Tiento Madera”, the new joint project by Tomás de Perrate, Raúl Cantizano and Marco Serrato; the handpan mastery of Javier Prieto from Porto; and the 2.0 rumba of the unclassifiable Paco Moreno, a sort of Kiko Veneno for the new generations.
Tomás de Perrate, Raúl Cantizano and Marco Serrato: “Tiento Madera” (Work In Progress)
Saturday, May 14, 4:30 p.m. – Osborne Garden
With the idea of creating a link between flamenco and free improvisation, Raúl Cantizano and Marco Serrato met one day in October 2020 for a session that developed into “Tiento Madera”. To take their concept one step further, they invited Tomás de Perrate, a Flamenco cantaor (singer) who easily and fearlessly navigates old and new. Together as a trio, they focus on the most material aspect of flamenco: the wood, the gut and the scream.
Javier Prieto
Saturday, May 14, 3:00 p.m. – Jardin Osborne (Osborne Garden)
After his beginnings in folk music with Cardamomo, this artist from El Puerto de Santa María has developed a long and acclaimed career in the world of flamenco, working with personalities such as playwright Salvador Távora, guitarist Antonio Andrade and dancer Juan Rodríguez “Mistela”. Since 2005, and after coming into contact with the handpan, his music is closely linked to the noble art of melodic percussion.
Paco Moreno
Saturday, May 14, 6:30 p.m. – Casa Alhambra
Paco Moreno delivers modern Flamenco rumba, a kind of millennial rumba influenced by a wide range of artists such as Ray Heredia, Connan Mockasin, Kiko Veneno, and Joe Crepúsculo.
