Singer-songwriter, percussionist and dancer Mirla Riomar was born in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil). She grew up in a community characterized by ancestral African traditions. She has African ancestry on her father’s side and indigenous Brazilian roots on her mother’s side.
From a very young age, Mirla learned to communicate through dance and percussion, elements that were fundamental in the shaping of her identity.
At the age of 12 she participated in her first musical project and discovered her passion for singing. From then on, she started to take part in several bands, and performed at the renowned Castro Alves Theater, with the Aruanda band. Throughout her career, she shared the stage with top Afro-Brazilian musicians, such as Leitieres Leite and Margareth Menezes.
In 2016, she settled in Barcelona, Spain where, together with Marcel Vallès, she founded and led the Ganzá band. Later, Mirla launched her own project.
Mirla’s sound represents the roots of her country, a fusion of traditional Bahian rhythms combined with jazz and soul, as well as the use of effects and subtle electronics.
