Artist Profiles: Clara Montes

Clara Montes was born in Madrid in 1968, with family roots in Andalusia (Huelva and Seville). She currently resides in Cádiz.

Since she was very young and during her teen years, she received a solid musical training, especially flamenco, first through her father, and later receiving guitar lessons from Ramón Montoya as well as classes from composer, educator, and soloist Andrés Batista. She trained in music theory, harmony and singing in various schools in Madrid and Buenos Aires.

Clara Montes is an exquisite and versatile singer, actress, and composer who has composed music for film, theater, and documentary soundtracks.

In 1998, she recorded her first solo work singing twelve poems by Antonio Gala, an album with which she won the Premio de la Música award.

Throughout her career, Clara developed tireless interest in the investigation of new and old music, together with the respect and profound knowledge she professes towards flamenco and copla (traditional Spanish song).
