Remastered Edition of Essential Norwegian Folk Album from Blåmann Blåmann

Blåmann Blåmann – Blåmann Blåmann [Remastered 2021] (Heilo, 2021)

Blåmann Blåmann is an iconic Norwegian folk music album, originally released in 2001. The Heilo label has released a remastered version to reintroduce the album to a wider audience.

The band was formed in 1997 when four young folk musicians met for rehearsals in an old house in Vinje. They named their act Blåmann Blåmann. Band members included Lars Underdal (25), Odd Nordstoga (24), Asgaut Bakken (23) and Silje Hegg (21).

The group performed an exciting mix of contemporary and innovative Norwegian folk, folk-rock, and Celtic music with a humorous edge.  Soon, Blåmann Blåmann became successful. It started when they were sent to Germany to advertise Norway as a tourist destination. When they returned home after the tour in northern Germany, more people wanted to hear them playing.

Initially, Blåmann Blåmann performed sporadic concerts although eventually it became a regular activity with concerts at schools and festivals, TV, radio and tours abroad. They decided to release a self-titled record, “Blåmann Blåmann”. The superb album was quickly noticed. Notably, the first track ‘Tippe tippe tuve’ went to the top of Norsktoppen, a radio program on the Norwegian Broadcasting network.

After five years of concerts at home and abroad, the Blåmann Blåmann project came to an abrupt end. Silje started on a master’s degree, Lars got a white-collar job, Asgaut got a job in the arts/culture industry and Odd became a pop star.

The Blåmann Blåmann album featured Lars Underdal on hardanger fiddle, fiddle, vocal; Odd Nordstoga on vocals, guitar, accordion; Asgaut Bakken on guitar, vocals; Silje Hegg on flutes, vocals. Guests: Marius Reksjø ondouble bass and Tor Bjarne Bjelland on percussion.

The remastered edition includes the original songs plus five new bonus tracks.
