Cristina Vane – Nowhere Sounds Lovely (Red Parlor, 2021)
Nowhere Sounds Lovely is the excellent debut album from American slide guitarist, composer and singer-songwriter Cristina Vane. Her timeless sound has a deeply American flavor, combining splendid acoustic blues, bluegrass, country blues, rock and folk music.
In addition to her skillful fingerstyle and slide guitar work, Cristina Vane has a captivating vocal style that recalls Bonnie Raitt in her bluesier pieces. On the bluegrass-leaning songs, Cristina uses equally enthralling Appalachian-style haunting vocals that would feel right at home in the thriving Asheville bluegrass scene. Cristina is deeply inspired by pre-World War II acoustic blues and several generations of artists like Skip James, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson, and Rory Block.
Cristina Vane wrote all the songs, performed all vocals and guitar work on Nowhere Sounds Lovely. Cactus Moser played drums bass player Dow Tomlin, fiddle player Nate Leath, and pedal steel player Tommy Hannum
