Lokembe Act Acholi Machon Releases Sons of South Sudan

South Sudanese band Acholi Machon has a new EP album titled Sons of South Sudan (Good Deeds Music). The new material is being released in honor of their country’s 10th year of existence [established on July 9th, 2011].

Acholi Machon includes Gaitano Otira and Cornelio Odong. Both play lokembes (acoustic thumb pianos) and their fascinating dueling lokembe interplay has become their signature sound. ‘Sons of South Sudan was produced by Ian Brennan (Tinariwen, Zomba Prison Project, Malawi Mouse Boys, Ustad Saami).

Their debut album, Lapwong (2014) – also produced by Brennan – was the first album of widely distributed songs in the Acholi language and they were fortunate enough to be able to take their music to the UK when they played at iconic world music festival WOMAD in 2015.
