Kkismettin Tops the World Music Charts Europe in June 2021

The album Kkismettin from Cypriot musician Antonis Antoniou is the number one album in June 2021 at the World Music Charts Europe.

Kkisméttin is the first solo album by Antonis Antoniou, founder and creative force behind the award-winning bands Cypriot bands Monsieur Doumani and Trio Tekke.

Using his native Greek-Cypriot language, Antoniou combines soundscapes and textures he has gathered during the course of his musical journey, including classical music, jazz, rock, traditional music, experimental creations and sound art.

The Middle Eastern melodies of the lute (one of Cyprus’s primary traditional instruments) resonate with analog synthesizer glides and guitar riffs, pushing boundaries.

The barrels that separate the divided city of Nicosia across its buffer zone literally become musical instruments, providing the album’s rhythmic bedrock and creating a rusty/grimy quality.
