Groundbreaking World Music Artist and Producer Nick Page “Dubulah” Dies

British multi-instrumentalist and producer Nick Page, also known artistically as “Dubulah,” passed away on May 11, 2021.

Nick Page was a highly respected musician and producer. He was one of the founders of three of the finest world fusion groups, TransGlobal Underground, Temple of Sound and Dub Colossus, and producer of the Syriana project.

Dubulah’s trailblazing sound combined world music from India, Jamaica, Ethiopia, North Africa, the Middle East and other parts of the globe along with electronic dance music and  dub.

Australia-based radio DJ and member of the Transglobal World Music Chart Seth Jordan said: “Personally I had a long connection with Nick, spending time with him at Womad fests both here in Oz [Australia] and in New Zealand. And we continued to link up via Facebook and I also interviewed him periodically by phone for my radio program. He’d been in poor health for several years. He was always a very creative, intelligent and very funny fella – and a total sweetheart!”

Dubulah worked with Peter Gabriel’s label Real World Records on various projects. Peter Gabriel released this statement today.

  1. Heartbreaking, devastating news from London yesterday. Nick was one of the greats, a true visionary and major talent who also happened to be a wonderful and thoughtful man. May he rest In peace now after his brave battle, and may his brilliant musical legacy find legions and legions of new admirers as time goes on. Immortal.

  2. It’s not often that a former school pupil gets a full page obituary in the Guardian. Nick was in his final year at Woodberry Down School in Hackney when I came as Head of Music in 1975. He was briefly in my CSE music group. Even then I could see him as a formidably talented musician with an imagination the size of a planet. A lovely empathetic guy, too, once you got to know him. I learnt more from him than he from me, but that’s always the way, isn’t it? Sad to read of someone who passes at the age of 60 when I am now pushing 76! But at least he had a life spent doing what he loved and, in the process, changed others’ lives for the better .
