Diego Baliardo and The Gypsy Evolution – Este Ritmo (Moondo Music, 2021)
Este Ritmo presents a set of rumba pop songs from Gypsy Kings co-founder Diego Baliardo, his family and friends. Although based in southern France, the artists are Gypsies who have their roots in Spain. The lyrics are in Spanish and most of the songs are based on Flamenco rumba, a celebratory style within Flamenco that was made popular in southern Spain and migrated to Madrid, Barcelona and southern France.
Diego Baliardo’s style is not traditional Flamenco, but rather the lighter, catchy rumba pop that attracts larger audiences, especially during the summer.
The lineup includes Diego Baliardo on vocals and guitar; Marlon and Gibson Baliardo on guitar and backing vocals; Antoine Ona on bass; and Rodolfo Pacheco on percussion.
