Award-winning Norwegian folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sigrid Moldestad has released her sixth solo album titled “Tonen i meg” (Heilo/Grappa Musikkforlag, 2021).
Although she’s a well-respected fiddler, this album focuses more on her facet as a gifted vocalist. Despite the vocals in Norwegian, many of the songs on “Tonen i meg” feature musical arrangements that are deeply influenced by modern Americana. However, there are a handful of songs where Norwegian traditional folk music influences are clearly visible and welcomed, highlighting exquisite fiddle performances.
Sigrid Moldestad says about the album: “Tonen i meg is about the different tones I, and hopefully everyone, has in us. There are various reminders of old stories and pictures, your own loneliness and longing, the riddles of the past and the ones we have become.”
Most of the music and lyrics are written by Moldestad herself, except for one children’s song and a cover version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreaming the dream.”
The lineup includes Sigrid Moldestad on fiddle, hardanger fiddle, ukulele, vocals; Sigbjørn Apeland on harmonium, Rhodes, piano, Farfisa; Anders Bitustøyl on bass; Jørgen Sandvik on guitars, banjo, guzheng, mandolin; Roald Kaldestad on guitars, mandolin; and Kåre Opheim on drums, percussion.
Guest musicians: Matias Monsen on cello; Johanne Løkensgård Mjøs on violin; Ingrid Eriksen on violin; Yumi Sagiuchi Shultz on viola.
