Acclaimed vocalist and educator Kate Conklin (Cirque du Soleil) is set to release her debut album in collaboration with banjoist Bryan Landers. The album titled Mesechinko Ljo – Dear Little Moon (Cerulean Records) is scheduled for release on May 21, 2021.
Mesechinko Ljo explores the depth and breadth of the Bulgarian folk tradition. Conklin and Landers are Americans who have devoted much of their adult lives to studying the music of the Balkans. Conklin earned a Fulbright Scholarship to travel to Bulgaria and learn straight from the source.
“It was like time stopped.” Kate Conklin still remembers the first time she heard the Bulgarian Women’s Choir. “I’d been studying music for years at that point, but this was unlike anything else I’d encountered,” she recalls. “It was the most shocking, striking, gorgeous thing I’d ever heard.”
