Artist Profiles: José Almarcha

Flamenco guitarist, composer and musical director José Almarcha Márquez was born in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real, Spain) in 1982.

José graduated in classical guitar at the Tomelloso Municipal Conservatory. He continued his music studies in the city of Córdoba, obtaining a Bachelor of Flamenco Guitar at the Superior Conservatory of Music in 2009.

He has studied with internationally renowned guitar teachers such as Paco Serrano, Manolo Franco and El Niño de Pura.

In 2006 he participated in the recording of the album “El Quijote hecho flamenco” by Basilio Villalta

In 2007, José Almarcha won First prize in the II International Flamenco Guitar Competition “Niño Ricardo” in Murcia, Spain.

He performed on the album “Me quito el sombrero” (2010) by Enriquito, alongside artists such as Jorge Pardo, Carlos Benavent, Sandra Carrasco and Juan Diego, among others.

In 2015, José Almarcha released his first critically acclaimed solo work, “Vejezate,” which included the collaboration of artists such as Antonio Canales, Juan Debel, Sandra Carrasco and Oscar Herrero.

In 2019, he collaborated on the album “Wady” along with celebrated violinist Víctor Guadiana.

In 2021 he released “Alejandra,” an album dedicated to his mother, who had passed away. It is a personal, intimate album. Flamenco styles featured on the album include tangos, seguiriya, toque por levante, milonga, and guajira.
