French Horns and Polish Traditions

Lumpeks (Unzipped Fly/Bolt Records, 2020)

Lumpeks is the second volume in the Radical Polish Culture series. The ensemble brings together three French jazz musicians and a Polish folk music singer.

This is not an easy to listen album. It is essentially free jazz combined with Polish traditional musical forms. It is not my cup of tea, but could be of interest to fans of free form improvisation and exploratory folk music.

The lineup includes Louis Laurain on trumpet; Pierre Borel on saxophone; Olga Kozieł on vocals and percussion; and Sébastien Beliah on double bass.
