Oye Mujer from Ladama

Ladama – Oye Mujer (Six Degrees, 2020)

Ladama, the musical collective featuring women from South American and the United States,  has released this new album titled Oye Mujer (hey woman). The group combines catchy pop, funk, rock, cumbia and Latin American rhythms with lyrics in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

From a world music perspective, the highlights are the traditionally-rooted songs “Maria” and “Haverá de ser.”

The lineup on the album includes Mafer Bandola (Venezuela) on vocals and bandola llanera; Lara Klaus (Brazil) on vocals and drums; player Daniela Serna (Colombia) on vocals and tambor alegre;  and Sara Lucas (U.S.) on vocals and guitar.

Guests include producer Pat Swoboda on bass; Betsayda Machado and Mesticanto (Venezuela) on vocals;  Spok and Lucas dos Prazeres (Brazil), and Eliot Krimsky (New York).
