African artist Fernando Ferreira has a new album titled ‘Mantenhas’ on AVM Music Editions. Ferreira, was born in Guinea-Bissau, but at the age of five he moved with his family to Cape Verde.
His father, a morna singer, influenced the way he hears and feels the music. Other Cape Verdean influences include tabanca, coladeira and lundum.
Brazilian music also inspired Fernando Ferreira during adolescence through his sisters. He listened to the Brazilian composers and performers like Caetano Veloso, Djavan, Gilberto Gil, João Gilberto and others. Through his mother, he also discovered the nostalgia of Portuguese fado.
