Custódio Castelo, one of the great masters of guitarra portuguesa (Portuguese guitar) has been recording superb instrumental fado albums in the past years. His new album Amália Classics on Portuguese Guitar is outstanding as well. The album focuses on some of the most cherished songs by Amália Rodrigues, one of the great singers in fado history.
Amália Classics on Portuguese Guitar takes classic fado and adapts to guitar in a brilliant way. Castelo made all the finely crafted arrangements that are imbued with a flavorful Portuguese essence. He plays Portuguese guitar throughout the album and is accompanied by Carlos Garcia and Maximo Ciro on acoustic guitar.
Custodio Castelo has performed with some of the leading fado singers, including Amália Rodrigues, Cristina Branco and Mariza. Previous guitar recordings include Tempus, InVentus and Maturus.
