Sauljaljui – Inside Revealed (Wind Music, 2020)
Taiwanese artist Tai Siao-chun is better known as Sauljaljui. She’s an indigenous musician, songwriter and composer, part of the Paiwan Tribe, born in Pingtung, southern Taiwan.
Sauljaljui’s Inside Revealed includes a wide-range of musical influences, ranging from fascinating Taiwanese folk and shamanic sounds to pop and Latin American rhythms. The instrumentation is primarily western guitars and piano although her arrangements also include local strings, didgeridoo and strong vocal harmonies.
The physical CD version of the album is beautifully packaged in a mini-book format (larger than a CD) with stunning artwork and foldout liner notes in various languages, including English and Chinese.
Inside Revealed is a great introduction to a young rising artist in the Taiwanese music scene.
