Esteemed World Music Radio DJ and Journalist Bastiaan Springer Dies

Dutch journalist and radio producer Bastiaan Springer passed away last Saturday, March 28, 2020 after a short illness.

Bastiaan Springer was born in Amsterdam in 1952. He specialized in world music and had a radio show called Dichtbij Nederland on Dutch Radio 5 and an African music program on Concertzender radio.

Springer wrote about world music for various Dutch magazines and web sites as well as English-language publications fRoots, Songlines and Afropop Worldwide.

He was interested in world music from all corners of the globe and was well-informed about many musical traditions, with a special interest in African, Asian, Afro-Caribbean and Latin American music.
