Maria Mazzotta, the Great Voice of Southern Italy

Maria Mazzotta – Amoreamaro

Maria Mazzotta – Amoreamaro (Agualoca Records, 2020)

The great southern Italian vocalist Maria Mazzotta dedicates her new album Amoreamaro to the different facets of love: desperation, tenderness, possession, and abuse.

The passionate and intense Amoreamaro showcases the vocal talent of Maria Mazzotta, who has mastered several vocal techniques across genres. Mazzotta’s recordings vary considerably. In this case, it is an intimate performance, accompanied primarily by accordion, with percussion, piano and didgeridoo on a handful of tracks.

The highlight is the trancy title track “Amoreamaro.”

The lineup includes Maria Mazzotta on vocals and tambourine; Malagasy musician Bruno Galeone on accordion and piano, Bijan Chemirani on zarb and percussion; and Andrea Presa on didgeridoo.
