Artist Profiles: Triona Ni Dhomhnaill

Triona Ni Dhomhnaill

Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, born in Dublin, Ireland, is the late Micheal Ó Domhnaill’s sister. She ventured out on her own after the demise of the The Bothy Band, and joined a North Carolina band, Touchstone, before joining the iconic Nightnoise ensemble.

Her virtuosity on piano, synthesizer, accordion and whistle added to the instrumental variety and flexibility of Nightnoise, but her singing may well be the jewel in the crown. It is a gift handed down through her family tree, and Triona credits her grandparents and her aunt as special influences, along with the music she grew up with: everything from classical music, Ella Fitzgerald, and big bands to the Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, Pentangle and other British folk acts.
