Rua was Rua were an Irish music duo featuring Liz Madden and Gloria Mulhall. Rua released their critically acclaimed first album Rua in 2001 and achieved chart success with ‘That Kiss’, a track taken from the album. This beautiful album features their unique version of the well known classic She moved thro’ the Fair. Rua’s original compositions such as Garden of Graves and Atlantic Storm conjure up an Irish landscape of rolling hills, rugged coastline and misty vales.
Their music was featured on world-wide selling compilation albums such as From a Distance (Taiwan), Celtic Dreams (Argentina), Celtica 2 (Holland), Voix d’Irlandaises (France), The Best of Celtic Woman (Japan), Silent Spirits & Keltica 4 (Germany), Pub St. Patrick (France) and The Best that is Irish (Ireland).
‘Dream-Teller‘ their beautifully crafted second album, was released in Ireland in September 2003. It features 12 tracks including Jimmy MacCarthy’s much loved song, ‘Ride On’. In their original compositions such as Dream-Teller, Klezmer and Le Marais Rua mix the genres of Jewish and French music with those of Irish music. Songs of the past like Carrickfergus and Black is the colour are placed alongside their own hauntingly beautiful tracks such as Tender, A Gentle Touch and Suan, undoubtedly to be among much loved songs of the future.
Much to the delight of Rua, Irish actor Gabriel Byrne features on the album providing a moving narration of the W.B. Yeats’ poem ‘I am of Ireland’ over a haunting instrumental piece of the same name.
