Christos Tsiamoulis

Christos Tsiamoulis (Χρήστος Τσιαμούλης) was born in Athens, Greece in 1961. He studied guitar and theory at the National Conservatory of Athens. From 1980 he turned to the study of Greek traditional music and the learning of traditional instruments such as the ud, both types of lauto, one originating from Constantinople and the other from mainland Greece, the tampura with a bow, the lyre originating from Constantinople, the “kemenche”, the ney, the kaval and others.

He obtained his Diploma in Byzantine music under L. Aggelopoulos and acquired many students for the theory and practice of ecclesiastical music. Since 1985 he teaches in Conservatories and music schools: The Cultural Center of Peristeri, The Goulandris – Horn Foundation, The Skalkota Conservatory, The Perissos School, The Music Secondary School of Haidari, The Museum of Popular Instruments, The Municipal Conservatory of Patra. In 1985, with the formation of the group Aegean Forces he began a creative path following the footsteps of tradition and the trends of contemporary Greek songs.

He has cooperated with S. Karras, M. Hatzidakis, D. Savvopoulos, G. Markopoulos, N. Mamagakis, G. Xatzinasios, G. Stavrianos, C. Aidonidis, D. Samiou, N. Saragoudas, Mario, S. Giannatou, N. Kypourgos, A. Ioannidis and others.

He also wrote music to plays and films, and published the book “Greek Composers of Constantinople, 17th & 18th Century” (Domos Publications), in collaboration with P.
