Artist Profiles: David Tavares

Born in Guarapuava, Brazil. His brother and uncle introduced him to playing the guitar at the age of 8. In 1982, he began to study classical guitar at the Villalobos Music Conservatory in the city of Curitiba, under the direction of Valdomiro Prodocimo.

Later, in 1987 he moved to Spain to study flamenco guitar with Oscar Luis Herrero. Three years later, invited by his teacher, he accompanied Herrero at live performances and participated in his debut album.

Since 1988, Tavares has participated in various international festivals. In 1994 he participated in the competition “Circuit of the Madrid Regional Government” obtaining the prize of Flamenco fusion and recorded an album together with the rest of the others winners and various Spanish musical instruments, promoting the fusion of Brazilian and flamenco music.

Tavares currently collaborates with several Spanish artists at live concerts and studio sessions. He’s well-known for his fusion of flamenco andBrazilian musical forms.
