Artist Profiles: Chico Pinheiro

Chico Pinheiro was born December 8, 1975 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has played throughout Brazil and abroad with musicians representing a multitude of genres, including bossa, pop, jazz, samba, Latin.

At the age of 29, Chico Pinheiro, released his first CD, Midnight, Noon on Sony Music , through the Art Music label. It features some well known Brazilian artists , such as Lenine, Chico Cesar, Gilson Peranzetta, Marcal, Proveta, and Jacques Morelenbaum, as well as singers Maria Rita Mariano and Ludana Alves. Pinheiro’s band included Fabio Torres on the piano, Eduardo Ribeiro on drums, and Marcelo Mariano on bass.

Chico Pinheiro entered the Berklee College of Music (Boston, Massachusetts) in 1996 on a scholarship, graduating in performance and arranging in 1998. He was given two awards: The professional Music Endowed Scholarship award and The William G. Leavitt Scholarship award.

In 2005 he released the critically acclaimed CD Chico Pinheiro for the Biscoito Fino label. The album featured João Bosco, Luciana Alves and Tati Parra.

In December 2007, Chico released his third album, Nona in partnership with American guitarist and composer Anthony Wilson (Diana Krall). It was also well received by Brazilian and American press.

There’s a storm Inside came out in 2010 on Japan’s CT Music and American label Sunnyside Records. Dianne Reeves, Bob Mintzer, Oscar Castro Neves and Luciana Alves participated in the recording.

Since his solo debut in 2003, Chico has been touring around the world, where he performs jazz and Brazilian music.
