Advaita was the duo of Daniel Johnson on tabla (classical Indian percussion) and Peter Olsen on guitar. Their original compositions were born from personal introspection. It is a kind of musical storytelling without words, told with the impressions and colors only sound can evoke. Advaita have been performing and recording since 2000.
Peter Olsen is a self-taught guitarist and composer. He draws inspiration from the indigenous music of people around the world through recordings and live performances. His compositions and guitar work have taken form within various acoustic and electric ensembles.
Daniel Johnson has been studying the art of tabla for years. He is a close student of Prabhakar Betrabet, Ustad Shabbir Nisar, and Ustad Tari Khan. He has studied here in the U.S. and in Hyderbad, India with Prabharkarji and Shabbirji. He performs regularly in the New York City area.
