Iván “Melon” Lewis to Perform at Global Cuba Fest 2016 in Miami

Cuban born, Spain based jazz composer and virtuoso pianist Iván “Melon” Lewis is recognized as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He is set to perform on Saturday, March 12th at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium on 2901 W Flagler St., Miami, FL 33135.

Born in 1974 in Cuba, Ivan “Melon” Lewis went on to receive his classical music training and graduated from the prestigious National School of Art (ENA) in Havana. His professional career started at the age of 20, making several tours throughout Latin America, Europe, U.S. and Canada, as well as being part of the well-known Cuban salsa singer Isaac Delgado’s band.

Based in Madrid, Spain since 1998, he has been very active, participating in several of the most notable jazz festivals around the world.

Since 2003, Iván “Melon” Lewis leads his quartet. From 2007 until 2013, he maintained a special collaboration with Afro-Spanish vocalist Buika.

In 2010 Iván “Melon” Lewis released his first solo album “Travesía” (Universal), featuring several of the most important musicians in the International jazz scene.

At the same time, Iván “Melon” Lewis collaborated with some of the most iconic singers in the Spanish musical scene. In 2013, Lewis was a Latin Grammy nominee for the recording of the year, as a producer for the track “La Nave Del Olvido” included in Buika’s album “La Noche Más Larga”.
