Essence of Delhi (Music Today, 2005)

This album tries to capture the cultural and social diversity of Delhi, which Indian writer and diplomat Shashi Tharoor regards as India’s first truly post-colonial city. The 9 tracks span an hour, and the moods are intended to reflect the historical grandeur, bustling bazaars, religious hubs, small alleys and the grand old city quarters.

Soulful flute provides a backdrop on most of the tracks, composed by Balbir Kumar and Gunnar Muhlmann. Our pick is the track Dilli Bazaar, which has also has superb bass lines.
