The official opening of world music festival Etnosur will be today, Friday 17 at 11:30 in the Multipurpose Social Center “La Tejuela” in Alcalá la Real in Jaen, a province located in Spain’s famed olive oil country. The festival runs from July 17 to July19.
The 2015 Etnosur Award will be given to journalist Alfonso Armada on behalf of Reporters without Borders. The ceremony will be attended by Carlos Hinojosa (Mayor of Alcalá la Real), Felipe Lopez (Secretary of Public Works and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía), Manuel Fernández Palomino (Vice President of the Provincial Council), Elena Vibora (Provincial Council Representative), Rafael Valdivielso (Provincial Delegate of Public Works, Tourism and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía) and Juan Angel Perez (Provincial Deputy for Culture).
The Vice President of Reporters without Borders, Alfonso Armada, will give a lecture entitled “Freedom of information” that will open the first day of the Etnosur Forum.
At the same time, the photo exhibition “Eight years of the excluded” will open at at 12:30, in the Exhibition Hall of the Abbey Palace of Alcalá la Real, framed within the project The Rural Solidarity, which aims to contribute to social development in the province. This event will be attended by the head of exhibitions at the Caja Rural, Pilar Rodrigo and Francisco Jose Nieves Godoy, director of the Caja Rural in Alcalá la Real, among others.
The world music program this year includes La 33, Gabacho Maroconnection, Noumoucounda Cissoko, Mercedes Peón, Chocolata, Aida Samb, Davide Salvado, Germán Díaz, Balcony Players, El Baston de la Vieja, Kuenta i Tambu, Txarango and Befunkbop.
