Light Flashes (Dubbest DBBST003, 2015)
Light Flashes is the third album by Boston-based band Dubbest. The group plays a mix of ear friendly reggae-pop songs and dub-infused instrumentals with a jam-rock band edge.
Dubbest combines modern high quality studio recording with vintage musical instruments like the Hammond B3 organ and 1950s Fender Stratocasters that bring to mind the classic reggae and dub styles of the 1970s. The smooth vocals add a contemporary R&B sensibility to the band’s sound.
The lineup on Light Flashes includes Andrew MacKenzie on guitar and percussion; Ryan Thaxter on vocals, keyboards and percussion; Sean Craffey on bass; Cory Mahoney on guitar and percussion; and Kyle Hancock on drums and percussion.
The guests on the album are Elliot Martin (John Brown’s Body) on backing vocals, Mark Berney on trumpet, Jared Sims on saxophone, Brian Thomas on trombone, and Steve D on synthesizer.
Dubbest is in the middle of a tour that will include the West Coast of the United States.
