Kanaku y el Tigre

Quema Quema Quema (Strut STRUT130 / Tiger’s Milk, 2015)

Peruvian band Kanaku y el Tigre is deeply influenced by North American music. Their critically acclaimed album presents a set of laid back pieces that combine feel-good dream pop, pedal-steel infused Americana, psychedelia, soul, electronica, surf vocals and other musical genres from the northern part of the Americas. Most of the songs are in Spanish, although the album also features two English-language songs.

The masterminds behind Kanaku y el Tigre are Nico Saba on lead vocals and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Bellatin “With the new album, we have focused consistently on the melody and the song despite a multi-instrumental approach,” explains Bruno. “We have always shared this process of dreaming up ideas – we both bring light and darkness into the room and use each other as creative mirrors.”

The lineup on Quema Quema Quema includes Bruno Bellatin on guitar, ukulele, moog & synths, percussion, vocals, toys; Nico on vocals, moog, omnichord, harmonica, accordion, toys; Marcial Rey on drums and percussion; Rafo de la Cuba on bass, vocals; Noel Marambio on bass; Jorge André Balbi on drums; Michael Lucas on drums; Alonso Bentin on percussion; Alejandro Leon on percussion; Luis Enrique Piccini on piano; Alonso Del Carpio on sampled piano; Pamela Rodriguez on vocals; Sergio Saba on vocals; Fernando Gonzales on trombone; and Leonor Watling on vocals.
