De siesta y monte (2015)

One of the artists that made a strong impression at the recent EXIB 2015 Latin American showcase in Bilbao (Spain) was Argentine folk musician and singer-songwriter Juan Iñaki, from Cordoba in central northern Argentina. He is deeply influenced by the great folk singers of Argentina and other parts of South America.

Juan Iñaki is gifted with a powerful tenor voice. His latest album, De siesta y monte is dedicated to his grandparents. The recording includes original compositions as well as songs by well-known songwriters and a traditional piece. One of the styles widely represented throughout the album is chacarera, a rural dance and music style from Argentina. Other folk genres include zamba, huaino, vals, vidala, chilena, ranchera and a bainerao.

Despite the folk music background, the final result is a mix of exciting rootsy jazz-infused songs and a set of pop-oriented romantic pieces. The highlights of the album include ‘Infancia de siesta y monte’, ‘La Huanchaqueña’, ‘Me enamoré una vez’, ‘Del norte cordobés’, ‘Pachamama’

The lineup on De siesta y monte includes Juan Iñaki on vocals and percussion; Mario Tozzini on piano and keyboards; Emilio Pasquini on electric and acoustic bass; , Sadun Gossen on drums and percussion; Marco Cordero on Creole and acoustic guitars; Pansi izurieta on guitars and backing vocals; and Federico Liendo on bandoneon. Guests featured: Mauro Ciavattini on Andean flutes; Pachi Hererra on charango and backing vocals; Mauricio Pregot on violin; Analía Vega on violin; Santiago Avila on cello; and Pichi Pereyra on percussion.
