Peoplewatching (Dare to Care Records DTC056, 2015)
Socalled is a Montreal-based rapper and multidisciplinary artist. Peoplewatching is his new recording in which he composed all the music, wrote the lyrics and even provided the artwork.
I grew tired of hip hop years and this recording has little to do with world music so i have little to comment. Socalled has been described as an eccentric artist with an odd sense of humor. His hop style incorporates jazz, funk and pop elements.
Guests on the album include Rob Swift and Mista Sinista at turntables; Allen Watsky, J.S. Williams and Daniel Joseph on guitars; Michael Felber and Patrice Agbokou on bass; P.S. Bova and Joao P on drums, percussion; Sergiu Popa on accordion: Pemi Paul and Jaron Freeman-Fox on violins; Ismail Fencioglu on oud; Josh Dolgin and Oliver Jones on pianos; Funkadelic trombone player Fred Wesley; and Kokayi, Kamal Chamkila, Katie Moore, Yves Lambert, C-Rayz Walz, Freddie Bunz, dancehall artist Josey Wales, Rich Ly, Michael Dubue, Matthew Flowers, Narcy, Joker, and Canailles on vocals.
