Adriana Pedret is the General Manager of EXIB (Expo Iberoamericana de Música), a music expo dedicated to the musics of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. World Music Central will be covering this music expo next week. In the meantime, Adriana gave us a preview of the event that includes music showcases, professional meetings, panels and various other activities. EXIB takes place May 7-9, 2015 in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain.
What is the goal of EXIB?
The goal of EXIB Music – Expo Iberoamericana de Música, is to consolidate a meeting point and exchange specialized in Latin American music in Europe. To consolidate a platform that is able to interpret and disseminate the musical diversity of Iberoamerica and its multiple identities and from that bring value to the creation of new performing circuits for Latin American artists.
This is the second year of Exib. What’s new?
EXIB’s goal is to generate projects in each edition and follow up and provide continuity in subsequent editions. During its first edition we found the need to create networks where professionals can cooperate and share projects. Thus, the RICMU (Red Iberoamericana de Comunicadores Musicales) and REDIGM (Red Iberoamericana de Gestores Musicales) networks were created. The first one, Latin American Network of Musical Communicators is dedicated to journalists specialized in Latin American music. RedIGM (Latin American Network of Music Managers) is an alternative dedicated to music managers where they can connect, share projects, synergies and collaborative action.
In response to the results of the discussion on the Latin American Music projection of the first edition, we created this year the First Meeting of Festivals which already includes more than 15 countries and 38 festivals that have confirmed attendance.
How is foreign participation going so far?
Increasing. It is hard work to consolidate a specialized expo-market of this kind and express the virtues of the meeting. The response has increased significantly and for the second year we are more than satisfied. This year we received about 200 applications for showcases and the First Meeting of Ibero-American Music Festival is a great contribution to participation. We will continue working to better express the EXIB Music concept.
What kind of marketing are you doing to attract more participants?
The strategic alliance with our networking partners is certainly an important element to use the event to have a multiplier effect. EXIB Music is a platform that actively encourages cooperation, promotes connections and synergies, we believe that is why we exist.
Finally, for those who have never been to Bilbao, which places would you recommend?
EXIB Music is celebrated in a very special context, Azkuna Zentroa / AlhóndigaBilbao is a space for the meeting of cultures, a very special place which in itself is an experience.
Certainly the cultural life of Bilbao is very active, with cutting-edge ideas that make the city a space of great attraction. The Guggenheim Museum is an unbeatable starting point. In addition Biscay and the Basque Country offer great attraction for visitors, beautiful landscapes, internationally recognized gastronomy and
traditions full of identity.
