Guitarist Rosalia Mowgli is set to perform on Thursday, May 7th, 2015 at 16:00 in Azkuna Zentroa at EXIB’s (Latin American Music Expo) Professional Area in Bilbao (Spain).
This presentation is built on arrangements and performance for Spanish guitar; a work based on the harmonization of contemporary songs that were born in the throats of the shepherds and reapers, goatskin percussion, mortars and anise bottles.
“From the experience gained over the last 15 years of intensive collaboration with maestro Eliseo Parra, I also show the original sources in the performance of native instruments (tambourine, Spanish square frame drum, mortar, etc.) from where we got the original guitar versions,” said Rosalia Mowgli.
The repertoire includes audiovisual material from American ethnologist Alan Lomax, Spanish professor M. Garcia Matos and Segovian musician Agapito Marazuela, who traveled as a boy with his father who was a merchant and collected many songs that appear in his “Cancionero de Castilla” (Castilian Songbook).
The program is a mix of material based on the legacy collected by these scholarsas well as original material by Rosalia, recreated by the trio that recorded Nanas Urbanas (Harmonia Mundi, 2007) and also includes some elements of the Latin American tradition.
Lineup
Rosalia Mowgli: guitar, vocals, Iberian percussion.
Guitarist and songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, Rosalia Mowgli unearths the ancient folk music of Spain, mixing it with classical guitar music sources, folk roots music from Latin America and the experimental world of unconventional instruments.
Her music is the result of inspiration from beauty and virtuosity with a shamanic music goal where the concert is more a tool of knowledge and healing, than mere entertainment.
