Nordic Fiddlers Bloc are set to perform on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the Thalia Theater at Symphony Space in New York City. This concert is part of The World Music Institute’s 2014-15 edition of its Global Salon.
The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc is comprised of Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway), Anders Hall (Sweden) and Kevin Henderson (Shetland). They represent the fruitful fiddling traditions of Norway, Sweden and the Shetland Islands. They play traditional pieces and original compositions, and exemplify the distinct sounds of and cultural ties among the people of the North Atlantic rim.
Olav is an award-winning musician who is also a member of the celebrated band Sver and widely recognized as one of Norway’s finest fiddle players; Anders, also a member of Sver, is one of Sweden’s leading fiddle players across a wide range of styles; and Kevin, one of Shetlands best fiddle players, is a member of such bands as Boys of the Lough, Fiddlers’ Bid and Session A9.
Their debut CD, The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, received rave national and international reviews on release, with their second album now scheduled for autumn 2015.
