Babel Med Music Announces 2015 World Music Awards

World music expo Babel Med Music has announced the winners of the Babel Awards 2015 (Les Prix Babel). The awards celebrate exceptional artists in world music. The prizes will be given during the opening ceremony of the Babel Med Music Festival, on Thursday, March 26th, 2015.

List of Winners

Babel Med Music & Provence-Alpes-Côte D’azur Region Award

This is a prize awarded to artists or professionals within the field of music that have made an outstanding contribution to world music.
Winner 2015: Omar Pene (Senegal) and Equation Music (program developed by the OIF and the Institut Français).

Transatlantic Bridge Prize

The Transtlantic Bridge (Pont Transatlantique) prize is a new award this year; a coproduction with Mundial Montréal. It was created to increase the circulation of artists between Europe and North America. The winner selected at Mundial Montreal will be given the opportunity to showcase as part of the official programming of Babel Med Music.

Fondation Orange Award

Since 2012, Fondation Orange has been working in partnership with Babel Med Music to award a prize to a musical act selected by internet users at www.fondationorange.com.
This year, you can vote for your favorite artist (among the 5 projects selected) May 13-23t at www.fondationorange.com.

Adami World Music Award

Adami’s goal is to manage the legal rights of performing artists in the music industry. It offers financial support to professionals in the performing arts world, making it easier for new artists to get started and for the established ones to carry on working.
Winner 2015: Bachar Mar-Khalife (Lebanon-France)

France Musique World Music Award

The winner of this prize gets to record a CD with Radio France’s Ocora Records label the following year.

Angel Romero y Ruiz has dedicated his life to musical exploration. His efforts included the creation of two online portals, worldmusiccentral.org and musicasdelmundo.com. In addition, Angel is the co-founder of the Transglobal World Music Chart, a panel of world music DJs and writers that celebrates global sounds. Furthermore, he delved into the record business, producing world music studio albums and compilations. His works have appeared on Alula Records, Ellipsis Arts, Indígena Records and Music of the World.
