Eliseo Parra, the great innovator of Spanish roots music, will release his new album El Man Sur on March 20, 2015. The tour will begin on March 12.
Eliseo provides details about the new album:
“I present a new album that seeks to honor my Andalusian ancestry.
Entitled “The Man Sur,” I go back to playing with words and their meanings; Southern man? why not? but also the leader at war with the Christians back in the 10th century and was known as Almanzor, the name given to the highest peak of the Sistema Central mountain range, drawn on the cover.
Musically speaking you find genres that will sound like flamenco to you: fandangos, rondeñas, guajiras, bulerías, alegrías … but actually belong to the oral music tradition from which flamenco took inspiration from.
In addition, there is music from the north, some original compositions and a Portuguese piece. There are traditional lyrics; others from Lope de Vega; Lorca; an Andalusian colleague of mine, JM Labrador; and some of my own contributions.
The musicians, as always, are my regular band: Eduardo Laguillo, Josete Ordóñez, Xavi Lozano, Guillem Aguilar, Aleix Tobias and Pablo Martin plus a few guests: Kepa Junkera, Diego Galaz, Roqui Albero, Luismi Novas, David Torrico and Las Piojas.
I hope that these songs will bring joy to your life, serving doing the most important function that music has for me, to serve as a therapy for the soul.”
