Contemporary Chinese classical trio Orchid Ensemble is set to perform on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Arab American National Museum (AANM)’s Global Fridays 2015 series. Orchid Ensemble will present a workshop at 5:30 p.m. The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. in The Annex at AANM.
Canada-based Orchid Ensemble is dedicated to both preserving and performing Chinese traditional and classical music, and commissioning new, original works from living composers in other musical styles.
The trio includes Lan Tung from Taiwan on erhu, Yu-Chen Wang from Taiwan on guzheng and Jonathan Bernard from Canada on various percussion instruments. The group’s projects have included The Silk Road, Jews in China and the multi-media Road to Kashgar.
Orchid Ensemble’s discography includes Life Death Tears Dream (2012), Road to Kashgar (2004), Lantern Riddles (2000) Orchid Ensemble received the Canadian Juno Award for Road to Kashgar. The trio recorded its 4th CD in February 2015, including works by Dorothy Chang, Farshid Samandari, Lan Tung, Jin Zhang.
