Ole Holmberg, a longtime member of the World Music Charts Europe and former Chair of the World Music Workshop of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) passed away peacefully in his own home on February 8, 2015, surrounded by his family. He had been seriously ill for several months.

Ole Holmberg worked for the Swedish section of Finnish national Radio YLE. He was an integral part of the World Music Charts Europe jury-panel and chaired the World Music Workshop of the EBU for some years. “Besides that, he was a great and often funny guy who loved to drive motorbikes and loved the music of (not only) Frank Zappa,” said Johannes Theurer of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenbur and coordinator of the World Music Charts Europe.

We have lost a loyal friend and a devoted ambassador for World Music,” said Henrik Svahn of YLE.

  1. An old friend (since the 70’s) passes away. Sad. He interviewed me several times for the Swedish-speaking radio channel in Finland, and we also had the interest in motorcycles in common (and a few motorcyclist friends in common, too).
Having followed his health development for years this didn’t coma like a bolt of lightning from a clear sky, but you can never be prepared for a friend’s death.
May you rest in peace, Hossi!

  2. Ole the Mountain!
Ole was a mountain / we other were a tree / growing up on his shoulder

  3. What a loss. How can a person with such an energy and passion for music pass away so early. Ole had such a positive attitude to friends, family – and life. I’ll miss him a lot as a great colleague and friend.

  4. A huge loss to the World music and broadcast community. Ole was not only one of the friendliest and most charming persons I had the honor of knowing, but also a big supporter of any interesting and good music outside the mainstream. His tastes in music were eclectic and he was always open and really enthusiastic to find and broadcast new good stuff. I will miss him so much.
