Diego El Cigala, one of the greatest living flamenco singers, will be performing on Thursday, November 20 Carolina Theatre of Durham in North Carolina.
El Cigala has ventured outside flamenco in recent years, exploring tango, Cuban son and other musical forms. His recordings include Lágrimas Negras, a successful million-selling collaboration with the late Cuban pianist Bebo Valdés. The three-time GRAMMY winner with the husky voice released another triumphant album in 2010 titled Cigala & Tango.
His latest recording is Romance de la Luna Tucumana, where El Cigala recreates classics from tango and the Argentine folk repertoire.
The late Paco de Lucia described El Cigala as having “one of the most beautiful flamenco voices of our time, a voice of sweetness that flows over everything.”
This concert is a co-presentation of Duke Performances and the Carolina Theatre of Durham.
