Songs of Time Lost (Six Degrees Records, 2014)

Two friends who met in Paris got to together to record Songs of Time Lost, a relaxed album of songs in Italian, English and Creole. Piers Faccini is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist of Italian origin. Vincent Segal is an eclectic French cello player who has played and recorded with African musicians such as Chamber Music with Ballake Sissoko.

The selection includes original compositions, Neapolitan songs and some covers. You’ll find the blues song (“Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor” that Piers first heard from Mississippi John Hurt; a Reunion Island titled “Mangé pou le coeur”; the country waltz “Quicksilver Daydreams of Maria” by Townes Van Zandt; the instrumental theme “Wenn ich mir, was wünschen dürfte by the Berlin composer Friedrich Holländer”; traditional Neapolitan songs “Jesce sole,” “Villanella di cenerentola,” “Dicitencello vuje,” “Cicerenella” and the more recent “Cammina cammina” by Pino Daniele.

It feels like a reunion,” expresses Vincent, “even though we never really lost touch over the years.”

Songs of Time Lost is a warm, humble recording with stripped down instrumentation highlighting the passionate vocals and evocative cello.
